Urgent: School Closure Due to Extreme Weather Warning
Dear Parents and Carers,
Please read the following important update regarding arrangements for this week due to the extreme weather forecast.
Summary of Arrangements
Tuesday 23 June
School will be open. Following lunch, parents/carers will have the option to collect their child from school at 1:30pm. Children should be collected from their classroom in the usual way. For children in Years 5 and 6 who normally walk home independently, we will require parental permission for them to leave school at 1:30pm. This can be provided verbally to the class teacher or by contacting the school office via telephone or email.
We recognise that an early collection may not be possible for all families. Therefore, school will remain open until the normal end of the school day for any children who need to stay.
Wednesday 24 June and Thursday 25 June
Tyndale Primary School will be closed to all pupils.
Children may access learning activities through the platforms and resources they regularly use, including:
-
LbQ and Google Classroom
-
Times Tables Rock Stars
-
Numbots
-
Reading at home
-
BBC Bitesize
Staff will remain available through the Dojo app should families require support.
Why Have We Made This Decision?
The Met Office has issued a Red Weather Warning for our area, with exceptionally high temperatures forecast across Wednesday and Thursday.
As a school, we have undertaken a rigorous risk assessment process, considering our classrooms, outdoor spaces, staffing, ventilation and available facilities.
Whilst we have implemented a range of control measures, including increased hydration opportunities, ventilation, shaded areas and adapted activities, the risk assessment has identified that the overall risk remains too high for the following reasons:
-
We are unable to sufficiently reduce classroom temperatures to safe and comfortable levels throughout the day following implementing a range of additional measures.
-
We do not have a dedicated air-conditioned or suitably cooled environment ('cool zone') available for children and staff.
-
Forecast temperatures are expected to remain exceptionally high over a prolonged period.
-
High indoor temperatures increase the risk of heat-related illness, discomfort and reduced wellbeing for both pupils and staff.
The safety, health and wellbeing of our children and staff must always be our highest priority.
We fully appreciate that school closures can create challenges for families and may cause disruption to work and childcare arrangements. Please be assured that this decision has not been taken lightly and follows careful consideration of all available options.
Thank you for your understanding, flexibility and continued support as we work together to keep our school community safe.
Kind regards,

Mr L Crouch
